What will the weather in Tioman be like when we arrive?

Our goal is to provide our guests with as much useful information about Tioman and our hotel as possible, however this is the number 1 question where we aren’t equipped to give an accurate or informed answer. Tioman is a tropical island, and we experience periods of rain and shine as a natural part of our eco-system.

In general regardless of the time of year, we recommend bringing a poncho or rain coat, as it does rain more often in the tropics. Umbrellas are provided in all our guest rooms.

On the flip side, when it is sunny on Tioman Island it can be really intense! Malaysia is located very close to the equator, and it is highly recommended to use some sort of protection from the sun. This could be sun block, long sleeve clothing, a hat, or similar. It’s really no fun to catch a sun burn!

Is Tioman closed for monsoon?

Tioman is open during monsoon, and many places on Tioman Island remain open all year. There are around 5000 local inhabitants who live on  Pulau Tioman, so the ferries run all year for tourists and locals. For some business owners, the low-season is an opportunity to go on vacation themselves (after working 7 days per week for most of the year), so it is best to contact businesses and hotels on Tioman in advance.

The Station Tioman will be open during Monsoon 2022. We can assist with putting you in touch with Dive Centers who will be running throughout the monsoon, the surf school in Juara, as well as help organize jungle trekking, Island Hopping and other activities depending on the weather and availability.

In cases of extreme weather, where people’s safety is affected, the government will issue a shut down of all marine travel. In these cases, ferries can be cancelled and delayed. Because of this the monsoon is more suited for long-term travelers, and remote workers.
